Meet Roxy. For fans of Where'd You Go, Bernadette and Bridget Jones's Diary comes "just the kind of comic novel we need right now" (The Washington Post) about an Austin artist trying to figure out her life one letter to her ex-boyfriend at a time. The Roxy Letters is a hilarious and heartwarming novel told through the letters that the charming and hapless Roxy, a twenty-eight-year old Austin native, sends to her ex-boyfriend (and current roommate) Everett. Roxy is underemployed, sexually frustrated, and uninspired. Tired of her job as a deli maid at the original Whole Foods, Roxy daydreams of breaking out of her funk and finding a job that will get her creative juices flowing. She also wouldn't mind finding love and finding herself off the brink of financial ruin-though Everett's late rent payments aren't helping her with the latter. On top of it all, gentrification is slowly changing her beloved Austin in new and evilly corporate ways. When a new Lululemon pops up at the intersection of 6th and Lamar where the old Waterloo Video used to be, Roxy can stay silent no longer. Encouraged by her ex-deli counter comrade Annie-now assistant to the Whole Foods CEO and planning an animal rights revolution from the inside-and her new friend Artemis, a vivacious and mercurial man-eater with a string of personas and paramours all over town, Roxy decides to take action. But can this spunky, unforgettable millennial keep Austin weird, avoid arrest, and discover good sex, true love, and her purpose in life in the process?

Climate change is a phenomenon, continuously researched, documented, debated and influencial to natural resource governance policies. Mitigating both predicted and ongoing climatic changes is even more challenging especially amid varrying perceptions of and means to attaining distributive justice. The differences in the views of distributive justice go beyond mention and make the use of compensations in PES schemes even tougher. Responding to this challenge of attaining distributive justice calls for an indepth screaning of these REDD+ sites and locals' perceptions along with preferences in regards to both distributive justice and proposed compensation formats stated for PES schemes. This work relates REDD+ and PES experiences in Brazil, Vietnam and Tanzania to environmental justice principles of distribution, representation and process., and compensation formats of in-kind, cash and both in-kind and cash payments under PES.

Exchanging the environment: accepting compensat...

Local opposition to waste treatment facilities has delayed and thwarted many of these projects around the world. Within the siting literature, there is strong agreement that compensation for environmental and health risks is usually a necessary condition for local acceptance. In theory, economics usually predicts that monetary compensation tends to increase local acceptance in cases like this. In practice, however, it is not normally used and some studies show that it can have detrimental effects on local acceptability. In order to avoid the latter effect, and consistent with empirical evidence, in-kind compensation is commonly pushed forward as being more effective than financial benefits in reducing local opposition. Standard economic theory explains this phenomenon in terms of preference satisfaction. As such, compensation in-kind is said to perform better than monetary payments because it tends to satisfy preferences to a greater extent.
